Yes! Whether you will be selling your home now or in ten to twenty years from now, a frameless enclosure will always look like new with the proper care. Minimal cleaning maintenance will enhance the beauty of the bathroom with a touch of elegance and class. In any home the bathroom and the kitchen are the two most looked at areas in your home from a buyers perspective.
What are the advantages of a frameless shower enclosure?
A frameless shower enclosure will increase the value of your home and it will last three to four times longer than any framed enclosure by eliminating almost all the metal framing. Additionally, your frameless shower enclosure can always be cleaned to “like new” condition with the use of proper cleaning agents. Frameless doors open in and out versus a framed door, which only opens outward. Corrosion is eliminated with the installation of a frameless shower enclosure and a frameless shower will last as long as the tile holds up!

What is the primary difference between a framed shower enclosure versus a frameless shower enclosure?
A framed shower door is constructed of thinner less expensive glass of 1/8″ to 3/16″. It utilizes metal to strengthen the enclosure, whereas a frameless enclosure consists of 3/8″ to 1/2″ tempered and polished edged safety glass which is strong and sturdy enough to use minimal metal, but only to secure panels in place instead of strengthening them.
What type issues do I need to be concerned with when making the decision to purchase either frameless or framed enclosure or are the issues the same?
No, the issues vary quite a bit. The problem with framed shower enclosures is that the water will collect in the track and will hold there not allowing all water to drain. This creates several problems. The worst problem is in the corners where the metal framing meets the tile. Water will stand there and will eventually eat away the grout. This can cause water damage and the result would be that you would have to replace the tiles. Termites are another problem as they are often attracted to moist rotting wood. Trapped and standing water can also cause bacteria to grow with time which results in an unsanitary condition, not to mention a stale odor. Corrosion can occur in areas in the metal framing where the deposits of hard water and soapy water gets trapped, resulting in deterioration of the shower framing. With a frameless enclosure, you obviously do not have any of the above problems because you have eliminated the metal meeting metal problem. There is no track for water to be trapped in on a frameless panel. The only place there is metal is where you need to secure a fixed panel of glass, after all something has to secure the glass to the tile. However, the method used ensures a watertight seal and provides a sleek attractive appearance. The frameless door itself has no metal around it at all, only the hinges and shower door handle.
Does a frameless shower enclosure cost more than a framed shower enclosure?
The initial cost of a frameless shower enclosure is more, but overall your frameless enclosure is less expensive due to the wear of the metal fixtures as mentioned above. In other words, your frameless shower enclosure and fixtures will last much longer for your enjoyment.
What are some decisions I should consider when purchasing a frameless shower enclosure?
Where do I want the shower door placed on my enclosure?
What side do I want the shower door hinges placed? (Remember frameless doors swing in and out)
At what height do I want my enclosure?
What type finishes should I purchase and should I keep everything the same finish?
